What We Do
Ramsdell & Hind is dedicated to the protection of property rights and challenging the often abusive tactics of municipalities in illegally attempting to control those rights. The concept of property is amorphous. It includes, amongst other things, real property, intellectual property, parks and lands belonging to the public and held it trust by elected representatives, and tax dollars. The Firm focuses its practice on protecting its clients from abuse of their property rights by those who seek to usurp them.
We often bring constitutional challenges on behalf of property owners to the restrictive land use policies of various Chicagoland municipalities. Our cases frequently involve zoning disputes, special use and variance applications, landmarking, condemnation, and disputes over the transfer of real property. Our practice also includes challenges to the private use of public land, TIF ordinances, and other taxpayer claims.
We have extensive litigation experience in private disputes. Over our 25-plus years in the practice of law, the attorneys of Ramsdell & Hind have successfully represented clients in matters involving theft of trade secrets, copyright, infringement, business torts, consumer fraud, deceptive business practices, commercial disputes, and attorney malpractice.
The courtroom is where cases are won and lost. We are at home in that venue and in fact have a "mock" courtroom in our offices. Our clients benefit from our extensive experience before state and federal tribunals. While we are a small firm dedicated to personal attention and flexible engagements that meet our clients' needs, in some circumstances we offer the ability to affiliate with other top lawyers with whom we have worked for years.
